Merera turns into the primary 'political detainee' to be discharged since Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn reported on 3 January that the legislature will absolve a few sentenced government officials and those with cases in court in an offer to cultivate national union.
Jail specialists told his family that he was discharged on Wednesday morning and permitted to backpedal home.
Merera, the pioneer of the Oromo Federalist Congress, has been in jail since December 2016 and was confronting numerous charges, incorporating relationship with fear-based oppressor gatherings. He denied the charges.
After his release Merera gave a speech about the current situation of Ethiopia, he said: "If we continue with the ethnic problems like this we will end up like Rwanda, or even worse since in Ethiopia there are more than 80 ethnic groups."
